Off to Appleton

We set off from the Newton White Athletic Center about 7:20 am this morning to catch a 9:20 flight from BWI to Milwaukee. Things went pretty smoothly as we checked in and made it through security in time for everyone to grab a bite to eat before boarding.

Our flight took off on time and was not very full, allowing the team to spread out. The guys had some fun with pitcher Greg Harbeck and outfielder Dave Kahn, as we made our approach into Milwaukee. One of the flight attendants got on the speaker and wished a happy birthday to Greg, a running joke with the team throughout the playoffs. She also congratulated Dave on earning D3baseball.com Player of the Year honors.

As we began our landing into the General Mitchell International Airport, I looked out my window and was surprised to Lake Michigan. That can be a little unnerving as your plane is descending to look out the window and only see water!

Our plane touched down just a few minutes before 10:00 am Central Time. As we de-planed and made our way to baggage claim, we were met with quite a surprise. We were welcomed by the Racing Sausages from Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, along with a marching band and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker. Mr. Walker welcomed us to Wisconsin and wished us luck in the College World Series.

After taking many photos with the Racing Sausages, we made our way down to baggage claim and out to our bus. We headed out for the two hour ride up to Appleton about 10:30, stopping for lunch about half way through the trip.

We finally arrived at our hotel in Appleton, the same one we stayed at in 2008 when we finished as the national runners-up, around 1:15.

There's not much else on the schedule today for the team, just dinner and then meetings. Things will pick up tomorrow with media interviews for coach Babb, team pictures, a bbq, practice and the NCAA banquet.
